Permits And Plans

1. Is the job address posted in a visible location?

General Nailing And Screwing

1. Are all fasteners approved for gypsum board type ?

2. Are screws used for gypsum boards of type "W" or "S," unless otherwise noted, and long enough to penetrate a minimum of 5/8 inch into the wood and 3/8 inch into steel ?

3. Is the nailing pattern on walls 8 inches in the center at the ends and in the field and 7 inches in the center on ceilings ?

4. Is the screw pattern on walls framed at 16 inches on center 16 inches on center, and for walls framed at 24 inches on center, is it 12 inches in the center?

5. Is the screw pattern on the ceiling 12 inches in the center for framing spaced at 16 inches or 24 inches in the center?

6. Are gypsum shear walls installed per approved plans and the prescriptive wall bracing requirements of IRC chapter 6 ?

7. Do the drywall ends break over the framing ?

Water-Resistant Gypsum Backing Board

1. Is the use of a water-resistant gypsum backing board permitted on ceilings? Are cut or exposed edges, including those at wall intersections, sealed as recommended by the manufacturer ?

2. Is a water-resistant gypsum backing board not installed over a vapor barrier in a shower or tub compartment ?

3. Is water-resistant gypsum backing board not used in areas with direct exposure to water or in areas subject to continuous high humidity, such as saunas, steam rooms, indoor pools, etc.?

4. Is cement, fiber-cement, or glass mat gypsum used in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations as backers for wall tile in tub and shower areas and wall panels in shower areas?

Garage Separation

1. Is the separation between garages beneath habitable rooms and habitable rooms above achieved with a ? inch X gypsum board or equivalent?

2. Is the nailing pattern 6 inches on center using 1-7/8-inch 6d cooler nails (or equivalent screws) for 5/8-inch type "X" drywall on the garage side of the ceiling separation beneath habitable rooms ?

3. Is framing supporting the garage ceiling separation from habitable space protected by an ½ inch gypsum board ?

4. Are any ducting that penetrates the wall or ceiling between the house and garage, and is not a minimum 26-gauge sheet metal, enclosed within a protective assembly such as a shaft, chase, or soffit, and has no openings into the garage?
