Use this Pressure Vessel Inspection Checklist to perform external and internal inspections, and assess safety to hold liquids and gases under pressure.

1. Are external coverings such as insulation and corrosion-resistant coatings in good condition?

2. Is there no leakage of gas, vapor, or liquid?

3. Do the pressure vessel mountings have adequate allowance for expansion and contraction?

4. Are the vessel connections (manholes, reinforcing plates, nozzles, or other connections) free of cracks, deformations, or other defects?

5. Are the bolts and nuts free of corrosion or defects?

6. Is there no distortion found on accessible flange faces?

7. Is there no erosion or dents found on the surfaces of the vessel?

8. Are the surfaces free of cuts or gouges?

9. Are the surfaces of shells and heads free of cracks, blisters, bulges, and other evidence of deterioration?

10. Are the skirt, support attachment, and knuckle regions of the heads free of cracks, blisters, bulges, and other evidence of deterioration?

11. Are there no cracks or other defects on welded joints and the adjacent heat-affected zones?

1. Are an adequate number of threads engaged on threaded connections?

2. Are all openings leading to external fittings or controls free from obstructions?

3. Are special closures adequate?

4. Are there no cracks in areas of high-stress concentration?

5. Do the vessel internals show no deterioration that might constitute a hazard?

6. Are the surfaces free of corrosion?

1. Is the set pressure not higher than the maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP) marked on the pressure retaining item?

2. If multiple devices are provided, does the difference between set pressures not exceed the limits permitted by the original code of construction?

1. Is there a provision for expansion?

2. Is there a provision for adequate support?

3. Is there no evidence of leakage?

4. Is there a proper alignment of connections?

5. Is there a proper rating for the service conditions?

6. Is there no evidence of corrosion, erosion, cracking, or other detrimental conditions?
