Huntingdonshire District Council is a Local Authority that serves a community of around 180,000 people in Cambridgeshire. Its different departments provide a variety of services such as housing, planning, recycling, transportation and much more.
As a Local Authority, Huntingdonshire District Council provides various services to the local community, with the priority of using public resources in the most efficient way. During a recent process improvement project, it was identified that the organisation could digitally transform the way inspections are conducted.
“We used a process flowchart to see how long each step was taking. The main areas we needed to focus on was finding an alternative way from pen and paper, as well as reducing the time and improving the quality of our inspections,” explains Joanne Cook, Project Support Officer at Huntingdonshire District Council.
The team turned to GoAudits to achieve these objectives, and were quickly up-and-running with a digitised inspection process.

The team was pleased with the results, which were clearly visible even after the first month of use, and looked to further expand the use of GoAudits.
The team started by digitising its Parking and Market inspections, which aim to ensure the public’s safety and the appropriate use of the public space. Users from different departments started conducting inspections on the app several times a week.
This eliminated the need for paper forms, as well as removing any scanning or printing to share the information across the departments. After an inspection, PDF reports are shared with the team, and also stored safely online.
The team noted the ease of use, seamless reporting, as well as time savings brought by this new process. We have decreased our inspection process time over 30% within the first month (and have yet to use all the tools available!)”

In particular, users appreciated the instant reports, and how easy it is to attach pictures to illustrate any issues that are found. According to Joanne, this helped improve communication between the teams: “Inserting images in the report is a great tool, making it easier to collaborate with other stakeholders within the Council. The images are also stored separately online, meaning we have access to them for future use.”
