Toyota Multi Point Inspection Checklist

Use this Toyota Multi Point Inspection Checklist to verify 160 points, generate report copies, and ensure dealerships meet Toyota standards for vehicle safety.

1. A CARFAX Vehicle History Report must be run, printed, and attached to the file.

1. A Techstream Health Check must be performed, and the diagnostic report must be retained in the dealer file.

1. All outstanding Recalls and applicable Special Service Campaigns (SSCs) must be identified and performed.

1. The engine must operate properly during cold start conditions.

1. The throttle must function correctly during a cold start.

1. The vehicle must operate properly throughout the warm-up phase.

1. The engine must perform properly once it reaches normal operating temperature.

1. The engine must be able to reach its normal operating temperature.

1. All engine cooling fans must operate correctly.

1. Brake pedal free play and travel must remain within manufacturer specifications.

1. There must be no abnormal vibrations or noises during brake applications.

1. The ABS must operate properly as verified via the Techstream Health Check.

1. The parking brake must operate properly and function within specified limits.

1. The material of the seat belts must be in good condition.

1. Seat belts must extend fully and operate smoothly.

1. The transmission and clutch must operate smoothly.

1. Automatic transmissions must operate properly at cold temperatures.

1. Automatic transmissions must operate properly at normal operating temperatures.

1. Steering must have a normal feel during lock-to-lock turning.

1. The steering wheel must be centered during straight-line driving.

1. The vehicle must track and drive straight on a level surface.

1. The tilt and telescopic steering mechanisms must operate properly.

1. Front windshield wipers must operate properly in all modes.

1. Rear windshield wipers must operate properly in all modes.

1. Windshield washer fluid must spray properly.

1. Wiper blades or inserts must be replaced to ensure they clear the glass properly.

1. Wipers must return to the correct "off" position when deactivated.

1. The speedometer must function properly.

1. The odometer must accurately register mileage in every mode.

1. The cruise control system must operate properly.

1. The vehicle's heater must operate properly.

1. The A/C system must operate properly.

1. There must be no abnormal noise or vibration coming from the engine.

1. There must be no excessive wind or road noise.

1. There must be no abnormal tire vibration or steering wheel shimmy during the road test.

1. The interior must be free of abnormal squeaks or rattles.

1. The frame and unibody must be in good condition.

1. All exterior panels must show proper alignment and fit.

1. The lower body and underbody must be in good condition.

1. All suspension-related items must show proper performance and be free of wear or leaks.

1. Struts and shocks must be inspected for leaks and excessive wear.

1. The power steering system must operate properly with no leaks.

1. Wheel covers must be secure and reasonably free of damage.

1. Tires must be inflated to specification and remain free of defects or damage.

1. A minimum of 5/32" tread depth must remain across the entire tread width.

1. All four tires must be of the same brand, model, size, and tread design per OEM specifications.

1. Brake calipers and lines must operate properly with no signs of damage.

1. The brake system must contain all necessary equipment, such as shim kits, pins, and rattle clips.

1. Brake pad or shoe linings must have a minimum of 50% thickness remaining.

1. Brake rotors and drums must be within specifications with no abnormal grooving or discoloration.

1. The exhaust system must be properly secured and free of leaks.

1. Engine and transmission mounts must operate properly with no signs of wear.

1. Drive and axle shafts must operate properly without damage.

1. CV joints and boots must operate properly with no signs of wear.

1. The engine must be inspected for fuel, oil, coolant, or other fluid leaks.

1. The transmission case and pan must be free of leaks.

1. The differential fluid level must be correct and show no leaks.

1. An emissions test and/or state inspection must be performed if required.

1. Drive belts and hoses must be free of cracks and damage.

1. All under-hood labels and decals must be present and confirmed.

1. The air filter must be in good condition.

1. The battery must show no visible damage.

1. A battery check must be performed using a Midtronics GR8 tester.

1. Battery posts and cables must be free of corrosion and damage.

1. The battery must be properly sized and securely fastened.

1. The charging system must operate properly and within specification.

1. Engine coolant levels must be within specification.

1. Coolant specific gravity must be tested to -31° Fahrenheit.

1. The engine oil and filter must be changed.

1. The engine must be checked for any evidence of oil gel.

1. All essential fluids (oil, brake, clutch, etc.) must be at their proper levels.

1. Under-hood fluids must be clear and uncontaminated.

1. The Owner’s Manual and TCUV Warranty Supplement must be in the dealer’s possession.

1. The fuel gauge must be operational.

1. The battery voltage gauge must be operational.

1. The engine temperature gauge must be operational.

1. The horn must operate properly.

1. Airbags must be present with no evidence of deployment.
