This inspection checklist can be used to audit infection prevention and control policies and guidelines in different health care settings.

1. Copy of guidelines on the Control of Infection in Residential and Nursing homes is made available.

2. Local guidelines for Infection Control in the Home is available.

3. An outbreak plan for Infectious Disease is available.

4. There is a reporting and notification procedure in place for Infectious Diseases.

5. Guidelines for setting up isolation facilities available.

6. Guidelines are available for admitting and caring for residents with MRSA.

7. Teams receive regular update and training sessions in Infection Control and Health & Safety.

8. Teams can give definitions of an outbreak of infection.

9. The home can state how they would manage an outbreak of infection.

10. Teams are aware of the symptoms of infection that should be reported to the person in charge.

11. Incidents of infection acquired by residents and staff are reported and documented.

12. Residents in shared rooms are seen to have their own easily identifiable bowls, toiletries, towels or flannels.

13. Teams know where to obtain information on infection control.
