Office Health & Safety Checklist

This Office Health & Safety Checklist is designed to assist office personnel in conducting safety inspections to identify unsafe conditions in the workspace.

1. Are desk and file drawers closed immediately after use?

2. Are the file cabinets, storage cabinets, bookshelves, and other items over 5 feet in height properly anchored?

3. Are extension cords, phone cords, and cables properly routed or covered to avoid trip and fall hazards?

4. Is a maximum of one power strip per electrical receptacle used?

5. Are aisles, walkways, and work areas free of trip and fall hazards? (i.e. torn carpets, turned-up edges of door mats, boxes, etc.).

6. Are exit paths free of boxes/materials at all times?

7. Are all work areas adequately illuminated?

8. Are storage and equipment rooms neat and orderly?

9. Are work and storage areas free of improper storage? (e.g., heavy, high, and/or unstable storage).

10. Are stairways free of obstructions and have a non-slip tread?

11. Are stairways free of obstructions and have a non-slip tread?

12. Are stepstools or ladders readily available for reaching high places?

13. Is the tension on the paper cutter blade adjusted to prevent the blade from free-falling?

14. Are Material Safety Data Sheets available for all hazardous materials used by employees? (i.e., ditto fluid).
