Storage Of Medication

1. Internal and external medication stored separately.

Administration Of Medication

1. List of team signatures and initials available and up-to-date.

2. Photographs of each patient with their record of medication up-to-date and available.

3. All medicines kept in original packaging and administered from it.

4. Directions made on the label of container of medication is clear and no changes are made by other team members.

5. Each resident has sufficient supplies of prescribed medication for the whole month.

6. Dates of opening recorded on short-life medicine by the administering staff.

7. All medicine in use within their expiration date.

8. Correct procedures put in practice when administering medication (medicine taken from original packaging, administered and MAR chart is signed by staff administering it).

9. Any refusal of medication or non-administration is accurately recorded.

10. Notification of GP is carried out when residents persistently refuse medication and this is recorded.

11. Record of GP reviewing all residents' medication is available (at least annually).

Disposal Of Drugs

1. Records kept of medicines being disposed of or returned to the pharmacy.

2. Records available and up-to-date of pharmacy waste collectors signatures.

3. Copy of MAR disposal log printed off and signed by waste collector.

4. Records kept of all medicine transferred out of the care home (in the case of discharged residents).

6. Records to confirm once resident has died medication is kept for a period of 7 days.
