A checklist for regular infection control inspections across care facilities, bathrooms and sluice rooms. Ensure the hygiene, infection prevention and control compliance and ultimately the patient safety and quality of care.

1. Organised structure in place to ensure compliance and auditing of cleanliness.

2. Record of Health & Safety meetings with Infection Control (3 times per month).

3. Sign put in place in staff room to identify Infection Control policies and codes of practice.

4. Infection Control lead for the home clearly stated by signage available.

1. Clinical rooms clean and dust free.

2. Sterile products stored above floor level.

3. Items of sterile equipment are in date.

4. Dressing trolleys are in clean and good condition.

5. Allocation of rooms for clinical practice is fit to purpose.

1. All moving and handling aids are waterproof and easy to clean.

2. Appropriate cleaning materials are available for the team to clean the bath and Moving & Handling.

3. Baths cleaned after each resident use.

1. Sluice room is clean and free from spillages.

2. Bedpans and urinals are stored clean and dry and inverted on the racks.

3. Appropriate facilities are available and in working condition to ensure correct disinfection and disposal of bedpans and urinals.

4. Commodes are clean and ready for use.

5. Commodes are in a good condition.

6. Clinical equipment is not stored in the sluice room.

7. Mops and buckets in the sluice room are for sluice and spillage use only.

8. Mops and buckets are clean and stored inverted.

9. Any cleaning chemicals and agents are stored securely.

10. A designated sink is available for hand washing with liquid soap and paper towels available.

11. Clinical waste bins are not overfilled.

12. Waste receptacles are clean (including lid and pedal).
