General Inspection

1. Is the heat pump checked for snow or ice build-up during the winter to ensure it has access to outside air and is working efficiently?

2. Is the foliage removed from around the outdoor unit and are shrubs kept at least 18 inches away from the heat pump on all sides?

3. Is the heat pump elevated 4 to 8 inches above the ground to allow for proper drainage, and is the outdoor unit not sitting below a leaking gutter to prevent water from collecting and freezing?

4. Are the filters cleaned or changed once a month, or as needed?

5. Are the registers kept open?

6. Are the outdoor coils cleaned whenever they appear dirty?

7. Is the thermostat set to no lower than 65 degrees during the heating season?

8. Is the thermostat set to no lower than 70 degrees during the cooling season to help lower utility costs and reduce usage?

Heat Pump Maintenance Schedule

1. Is a preventative maintenance checkup scheduled with the local dealer at least once a year, ideally in the fall before winter and in the spring before the AC season?

2. Are all ducts, filters, blower, and indoor coil for dirt and other obstructions checked?

3. Is duct leakage checked for and repaired?

4. Does the heat pump receive adequate airflow?

5. Is the refrigerant charge corrected?

6. Are refrigerant leaks checked for and has any lost refrigerant been replaced?

7. Are electric terminals inspected, cleaned, and tightened if necessary, and is a non-conductive coating applied?

8. Are motors lubricated and belts inspected for tightness and wear?

9. Is the electric control corrected, and heating locked out when the thermostat calls for cooling and vice versa?

10. Are the heat pump’s condensing unit base-pan drain holes inspected and debris removed?
