Forklift Operator Shift Takeover / Handover Checks

This Forklift Operator checklist can be used by operators, supervisors or floor managers to conduct inspections in between shifts, to ensure the forklift is in proper working order and is safe to be driven. Part of routine workplace health & safety inspections, it covers forklift safety features, fluid levels and leaks, etc.

Visual Checks

1. Any unresolved faults from the previous shift/day?

3. Are all safety guards and covers properly fastened and secured?

5. Hydraulic fluid level in the reservoir checked?

6. Mast and carriage free of any damage or foreign items?

7. Chains and fixing bolts visually checked for damaged links, obvious stretching and appropriate lubrication?

8. Forks (and securing pins) visually checked for any sign of cracks or any other sign of damage or excess wear?

9. Backrest / Extension visually checked for damage or debris?

10. Have all attachments been checked?

11. All tyres checked for obvious damage, including cuts and tread wear?

12. Pneumatic tyres checked to ensure correct pressure?

1. Does the steering feel normal with no undue play or unusual movement?
