Use the Fire Pump Inspection Checklist to ensure the fire safety pump components are functioning correctly, preventing a breakdown during an emergency.

1. Is the heat in the pump room 40°F (4.4°C) or higher?

2. Do the intake air louvers in the pump room appear operational?

3. Are the pump suction, discharge, and bypass valves open?

4. Are there no piping or hose leaks?

5. Is the fire pump leaking one drop of water per second at the seals?

6. Is the suction line pressure normal?

7. Is the system line pressure normal?

8. Is the suction reservoir full?

9. Is the controller pilot light (power on) illuminated?

10. Is the transfer switch normal power light illuminated?

11. Is the isolating switch for standby power closed?

12. Is the reverse-phase alarm light not illuminated?

13. Is the normal-phase rotation light illuminated?

14. Is the oil level in the vertical motor sight glass normal?

15. Is the diesel fuel tank at least 2/3 full?

16. Is the controller selector switch in the "auto" position?

17. Are the voltage readings for batteries (2) normal?

18. Are the charging current readings normal for batteries?

19. Are the pilot lights for batteries on, or are the battery failure pilot lights "off"?

20. Are all alarm pilot lights "off"?

21. Have you recorded the engine running time from the meter?

22. Is the oil level normal in right-angle gear-drive pumps?

23. Is the crankcase oil level normal?

24. Is the cooling water level normal?

25. Is the electrolyte level in batteries normal?

26. Are the battery terminals free of corrosion?

27. Is the water-jacket heater operational?

28. For steam-driven pumps, is the steam pressure normal?

29. Have you examined the exhaust system for leaks?

30. Have you checked the lube oil heater for operation (diesel pumps)?

31. Have you drained the condensate trap of the cooling system?

32. Have you checked for water in the diesel fuel tank?
