8. Is the hoist support checked, including fasteners, beams, trolley, gantry structure/wheels, and jib structure, as well as engine hoist components? Is it confirmed that hoists are supported by an approved and engineered anchorage (for portable hoists) or a beam/gantry equal to or greater than the hoist capacity?

Crane Pre-Use Checklist for frequent inspections required for all cranes, hoists, and miscellaneous lifting devices at the beginning of each shift.

1. Are current annual and quarterly stickers and all other required safety markings checked on inspection stickers?

2. Is the upper limit switch (if equipped) checked by lowering the hook slightly and then raising it slowly into the switch to check its operation?

3. Are all operating mechanisms checked for proper operation, including the hoist brake, bridge, trolley, pendant station (if equipped), and hoist control chain or lever?

4. Is the hoist rope or load chain checked by lowering the hook to above floor level and visually inspecting it for any broken wires, kinking, crushing, bird caging, or corrosion? Is the load chain checked for bent, stretched, cracked, scored, or heat-damaged links?

5. Is the hook/hook block and supporting hook (if equipped) checked for excessive throat opening, bent/twisted elements, free swiveling of the hook, operational safety latch, and signs of wear or malfunction on rope sheaves or chain sprockets?

6. Is the spooling of wire rope onto all sheaves and drums checked? Is the load chain spooling onto sprockets and into the chain bucket (if equipped) checked?

7. Are electric, air, or hydraulic components checked, including festoons, collectors, pendant controls, lights, strain relief, wiring for exposed conductors, and any leaky hoses, tanks, or valves?
