This checklist is in accordance with OSHAâ€™s Bloodborne Pathogen Standard for Contaminated Laundry to reduce exposure to blood or other potentially infectious pathogens through soiled linen that is improperly labelled or handled.

1. Contaminated laundry handled with minimal agitation as far as possible?

2. Contaminated laundry transferred to a bag at the location of use?

3. Laundry not sorted or rinsed at the location where it was used?

4. Wet contaminated laundry placed in leak-proof and color-coded or labelled containers, at the location where it was used?

5. Is the contaminated laundry wet and does it present a reasonable likelihood of soak-through of or leakage from the bag or container?

6. Contaminated laundry bags not held close to the body or squeezed when transporting to avoid punctures from improperly discarded syringes?

7. Normal laundry cycles used according to the washer and detergent manufacturer's recommendations?

8. Appropriate PPE worn when handling and/or sorting contaminated laundry?

9. Disposable (single-use) gloves disposed and not washed or decontaminated for re-use?

10. Contaminated needles and sharps not bent, recapped or removed?

11. Shearing or breaking of contaminated needles prohibited?

12. Is it ensured that cleaning solutions containing ammonia and chlorine never mixed together?

13. Proper lifting techniques used?

14. Well-maintained carts with large, low rolling, low resistance wheels, that can roll easily over mixed flooring as well as gaps between elevators and hallways used?

15. Mechanical aids such as spring-loaded laundry platforms used to reduce the need to lift?

16. Accumulation of flammable and combustible waste materials and residues controlled so as to not contribute to a fire emergency?
